Sturzinger Hired As Perkins Athletic Director

Teddy Sturzinger hired as PHS Athletic Director

Perkins Local School District has turned to a familiar name – Teddy Sturzinger – to lead the district’s Athletic Department. On Wednesday, the Perkins Board of Education voted unanimously to hire Mr. Sturzinger as Athletic Director and assistant principal at Perkins High School.

Mr. Sturzinger, a 1996 Perkins High School graduate, previously taught science, reading and language arts, and health at Briar Middle School from 2008 to 2018. He currently is an assistant principal at Fremont Middle School. Mr. Sturzinger also coached middle school and freshman football and baseball at Perkins.


Superintendent Todd Boggs told Board members that Mr. Sturzinger possesses the qualities that will make him a great partner and he “will relentlessly support our student athletes.”

Mr. Sturzinger, who lives in the district and sends his three children to Perkins Schools, thanked the Board for the opportunity. “This means a lot to me to get this opportunity,” he said. “It’s a great opportunity for me to return home as an alumni.”


Mr. Sturzinger will succeed Matt Smith, who has been in the position for four years and will continue in the position until July 31. Mr. Smith, who previously was a math teacher at Perkins High School, has requested to transfer back to classroom teaching. 


Mr. Sturzinger starts the position on Aug. 1. The Board gave him a three-year contract.


In other personnel moves, the Board approved two-year contracts for social worker Sarah Hickey, Director of Communications Jeff Stacklin, and Director of Food Service Karen Wells. The Board also accepted the resignation of district Lead Nurse Lisa Miller.
